Join in on Red Envelope Campaign

On March 31st, thousands of pro-life people will all be doing the same thing: sending an empty red envelope to President Barack Obama.

March 31st is “Red Envelope Day,” a day where we remind our President about the value of unborn life.

Send your empty red envelope and write on the back the following: “This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken will never be a part of our world.”

Miracle Cells

The Real Success Stories

Many who listened to President Obama’s inaugural address believe he means to spend taxpayer money on research that destroys human embryos. Before he does, I hope somebody brings to his attention the story I’m about to tell.

A few years ago, a Texas teenager named Laura Dominguez lost control of her car when she hit an oil spill on the road. The accident left Laura paralyzed from the neck down. “You’ll never walk again,” doctors told her.

Laura refused to accept this prognosis. She and her mother met with experts on spinal cord injuries. They learned about an exciting new treatment being performed in Portugal. The procedure is known as olfactory mucosa transplantation. Surgeons take adult stem cells found in the nasal region and transplant them into the injured area.

Laura underwent this treatment—and her spinal cord began to heal. She gained upper body agility, and, in time, she learned to walk with the use of braces and outside help. Laura is determined to walk unassisted by her 21st birthday.

Miracles like this have been repeated many times as researchers bend their attention to the uses of adult stem cells. Writer Bradley Hughes describes many of them in his article “Real-World Successes of Adult Stem Cell Treatment.”

To date, Hughes writes, these “miracle cells” are providing hope for patients with Crohn’s disease, lupus, heart disease, blindness, Parkinson’s, and sickle-cell anemia. And according to biotech writer James P. Kelly, umbilical cord blood stem cells are already being used to treat 70 forms of blood and bone marrow cancers.

And just a few days ago, there was a report at Northwestern University. Twenty-one patients with multiple sclerosis were stabilized following treatment with adult stem cells removed from each patient’s bone marrow. In some patients, the disease was reversed.

But because much of the mainstream media refuses to report on this, many Americans remain unaware of it. Ignorance about these cures may be driving the public’s demand for embryonic stem-cell research, which kills human beings at the embryonic stage.

Americans also seems unaware that not a single clinical success has resulted from treatments using embryonic stem cells. None!

So why do researchers and the biotech industry push so hard for public funds for embryo-destructive research? Because science wants science for science’s sake and, incidentally, because they stand to make huge profits through potential patents. It’s potentially far more lucrative than research involving adult stem cells.

You and I need to spread the word about the miracle cures being found through the use of adult stem cells. They’re a far superior alternative to embryonic stem cells—and nobody is killed in the process of retrieving them.

As science demands unfettered research in the future, we need to be encouraging ethically challenged reporters, researchers, and politicians to take a look backwards for a grim reminder of what happens when science is divorced from morality—euthanasia, gas chambers, and Nazi experiments on children.

Do we really want to start down that terrible road again?

A Message About Abortion

I don’t know who this 12-year-old girl is but she has a powerful message  about abortion.  Take a look.  It is absolutely awesome!!

SD Bill SB195

Stem cell  research and harvesting from  human embryos has been debated in our United State legislative bodies and from state to state.  Now a new bill is in committee for our very own 2009 legislative season.

Senate Bill 195 would change our current laws on stem cell use.  The current law bans not only the destruction of the embryo to obtain stem cells, regardless of the source of funding for such research, but also research using cells obtained by killing embryos regardless of whether the cells were harvested in South Dakota or elsewhere.  This is why we must fight to to kill this bill and keep South Dakota laws as they are!!!

Call your representatives and make your voice heard.

Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)

I read an email recently about the Freedom of Choice Act that I wanted to share with all of you.  Here is an excerpt that I find very interesting.

“My understanding is that FOCA would create a national abortion policy that would far exceed the Roe v. Wade decision.  It would:

1.  Force American taxpayers to fund abortions.

2.  Force every state to allow partial-birth abortions.

3.  Destroy the conscience right of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and hospitals that oppose abortion on religious, moral or ethical grounds.

4.  Strip parents of their rights and responsibility to be involved in their minor daughter’s abortion decision.

As I was thinking about this and struggling with the moral aspects of it, I started to wonder what percentage of hospitals and clinics in the U.S. are affliated with religious organization.  I don’t know the answer to this, but it has to be staggering.  What is going to happen to these institutions if FOCA passes?  How many will close their doors?  What effect will this have on health care?  What will the cost be to taxpayers if FOCA becomes law?

I think we should all be calling and mailing notes to our Senators and Congressmen expressing the concerns that we have about the Freedom of Choice Act.”

Thinking along these terms,  is it really “freedom” or tragedy this act of choice will bring?!

Breast Cancer Linked to Abortions

There is new scientific evidence that shows that the increase in abortions worldwide has caused a sharp increase in breast cancer.  Over 34 studies indicate that women who abort thier first pregnancy have a much higher risk of developing cancer.

A first pregnancy permanently changes the structure of a woman’s breasts.  Before she is pregnant, her breasts cannot produce milk, as the gland cells are immature and underdeveloped.  When she becomes pregnant, estrogen and other hormones flood her system.  This results in rapid growth in size, while the internal structure undergoes dramatic change.

Cells previously dormant, rapidly grow into a system of branching ducts and gland cells capable of producing milk.  Once this growth, change and maturing is complete, there is no further significant change for the rest of her life.  Once mature, the chance of developing cancer is much less.

When these cells are changing and transitional, they are less stable and have much greater potential of becoming cancerous.  If she completes her first pregnancy, this unstable period passes and her gland cells mature and stabilize.

But, if she interrupts her pregancy, before 7 months (90% of abortions are done in the first trimester) she in effect stops the development of the cells at this unstable, transitional phase.  It seems apparent that cancerous changes can and do occur more frequently among these transitional cells of a woman who has terminated her pregnancy.  If she aborts more than once before completing a pregnancy, her chance for cancer increases even more.  A subsequent full term pregnancy helps, but sadly never removes the sharply increased threat of cancer.

Abortion and Premature Birth Link Confirmed Again in Study

Another study has confirmed the link between abortion and subsequent premature births when a woman is pregnant again. Previous studies have substantiated the link and now new research involving more than one million births show abortion is responsible for elevating pre-term birth risk. Dr. Manfred Voigt led the new study, published in the German medical magazine Z Geburtshilfe Neonatol late last year. According to the research, women who have one prior abortion boost their risk for a very premature birth in a future pregnancy by 30 percent. Women who have had more than one prior abortion increase their risk of a very premature birth by 90 percent — making it a virtual guarantee that future pregnancies will be problematic. Canadian researcher Brent Rooney, who has published his own work on the abortion-premature birth link, talked with on Wednesday about the new study. Rooney said the Voigt-led team has “removed any lingering doubt about prior induced abortions raising the risk of ‘early’ premature (under 32-34 weeks’ gestation) birth.”

Study after study continues to point out the affects abortion has upon a woman and any subsequent pregnancies.  When is everyone going to realize all of the dangers?
