Abortion Myth

*Excerpt from Family Research Council brochure, “The Top Ten Myths about Abortion”

Myth: Abortion is legal because the Constitution says so.

Fact: Legal abortion is the fruit of judicial activism.  It has been imposed upon the country by judges.

The word “abortion” does not appear in the Constitution.  Nevertheless, in Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that a right to abortion was part of an implied right to personal privacy emanating from various constitutional Amendments –in other words, that a right to abortion is an “implied” part of the Constitution.

It is the chief modern example of judicial activism—judges imposing their own policy preferences rather than interpreting the law as written.  When judges act in this manner, they usurp the role of the legislators, whom the citizens elect to represent them in deciding disputed, difficult policy issues.  Thus, judicial activism undermines the very basis of our representative democracy.

This ruling has been sharply criticized by legal scholars, federal judges, and seven other Supreme Court justices.  Justice Byron White, for example, said the court engaged, “not in constitutional interpretation, but in the unrestrained imposition of its own, extra constitutional value preferences.”  Justice Antonin Scalia said, “The Court should return this matter to the people—where the Constitution, by its silence on the subject, left it—and let them decide.”

Even Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an outspoken proponent of legal abortion, called Roe v. Wade a “heavy handed judicial intervention: that was “difficult to justify,” and said it was “not the way courts generally work.”

Abortion Support on the Decline

A recent poll done by ABC News and the Washington Post reveals that support for abortion is at its lowest point in seven years!  They questioned people if they want abortions legal in all or most cases or if they want abortion illegal in all or most cases.  This was slightly misleading because it did not inform respondents that less than 1-2% of abortions are performed for cases of rape, incest and life of the mother, which caused some pro-life people who support abortion in these instances to say they want abortions to remain legal.  In spite of the ambiguity, the pro-abortion side dropped 4% from a similar poll done in January.  Polls with more accurate and clearly defined questions result in higher percentages of people supporting the pro-life position!

Be encouraged and keep standing for LIFE!

Unhappiness

Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing our babies to get it.

God Bless America

by Bill Kortemeyer

My wife and I are volunteers working on the pledge drive for the new citizens’ abortion initiative number 11, which will be on the ballot this November.  We are involved in this campaign because we are pro-Bible, pro-life and patriotic.  We are concerned for America—for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.  We are concerned because of the way we in America presently value life.

In the November election in 2006 an abortion ban was defeated by a margin of 55 to 45 percent.  Exit polls and surveys since that time show that a vast number of those who voted against that ban would have voted for it if it had exceptions for rape, incest and the health of the mother.  This initiative has those exceptions, which, incidentally, amount to 1.8 percent of the total abortions in South Dakota.  We are going after the 98.2% in this initiative.

We are now approaching 4000 lives lost in Iraq.  That is a tragedy and I don’t mean to minimize it, but we kill 4000 unborn babies per day by abortion.

The Bible says in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17, “Thou shall not kill (murder).”  It does not say though shall not kill except for Unborn Babies!  It does not say thou shall not kill until the Roe vs. Wade decision of Jan 21, 1973 and then it will be ok to kill unborn babies!  It does not say thou shall not kill until the eighties or nineties or the 21st Century or

the new millennium or any new millennium.  It says thou shall not kill—period.  There is no expiration date.  Nor is there any provision for any modification or mitigation or alteration of the commandment by anyone…not even the Supreme Court of the United States…The Supreme Court of the United States did not change the law of God—they simply broke it.

And we all rally ‘round the flag and sing God bless America and put big signs in our windows and on billboards and on our clothing saying the same.  Since 9-11-01, people all across America are jumping on the band wagon, proclaiming and singing God bless America, and many of them don’t even know who God is.

“God bless America” is a prayer.  How can we ask?  How can we expect God to bless America when we bless him with 4000 abortions per day?

We need 200,000 South Dakotans by September 1 who will pledge to vote YES on 11.  I’m praying for more.

In the Sioux Falls Argus Leader of Feb 27, 2008, Kate Looby, director of Planned Parenthood SD, said she doesn’t expect much from the VoteYesForLife.com campaign.  That fires me up!

We are told that Planned Parenthood is incapable of winning this legally; they are counting on our apathy and us stumbling over ourselves.

That Christian apathy is what beat us in 2006.  So many people said they did nothing then because they thought it would easily pass.  That Christian apathy is the only thing that can defeat us now.

I would like to close with an old saying that my Grandpa taught me years ago.  Perhaps you’ve heard it.  It goes like this…

For want or lack of a nail, a shoe was lost

For want of a shoe, a horse was lost

For want of a horse, a soldier was lost

For want of a soldier, a battle was lost

For want of a battle, a victory was lost

For want of a victory, a country was lost

All for the want of a nail.

I just want to be a nail.  Will you be a nail with me?

You can be a nail by pledging to vote.  You can be a nail by praying for this initiative and for America.  If God decides that it is time for Roe vs. Wade to be reversed, neither the ACLU, nor the pro-abortion movement, nor the congress, nor the Supreme Court of the United States can stop it.  Please pray for that time.  In so doing, you will truly be praying, “God Bless America.”

Thank You

Abortion-An inhuman act

A person who is going to commit an inhuman act invariably excuses himself by saying, “I’m only human, after all”.

They Care About Women? Really?!

Pro-aborts have demonstrated time and time again how determined they are to take innocent lives—even at the expense of the mother.  The recent court case against two owners of abortion businesses exemplifies this claim.

Two women are on trial in California for practicing and dispensing medicine without a license, and thus putting women’s health in jeopardy.  The duo is scheduled to be arraigned on June 19.  Apparently they are connected to four abortion businesses.  One of the women, Bertha Bugarin, performed medical procedures on patients (remember–no license!) when abortion practitioners were not present!  She was even photographed wearing a stethoscope around her neck two months after arrested for practicing without a license!

This is not the first time their shady practices have been called into question.  They have been involved in about a dozen malpractice and personal injury lawsuits.  Most of these lawsuits ended with the women injured by abortions receiving nothing.  The abortionists they employ are just as shady.  The businesses have a long history of botched abortions and near death complications for the women who get abortions performed at these businesses.

Pro-aborts build their argument for legal abortions on the basis that they care about women…that they are trying to help women…that they allow women to take control of their body…that they are protecting women’s happiness.  Go ahead.  Ask the masses of women who have face serious complications from a haphazardly performed abortion if they feel protected, happy, cared for and in control of their body.

The reality is that the abortion industry couldn’t care less about the women.  All they care about is making a profit—and they will stop at nothing to serve their money god.

Obscene Profits

The following story was published in the Peninsula Daily News, a Port Angeles WA newspaper.  Michelle Malkin is “right on the money.”

While we scorn oil moguls, abortion industry thrives

By Michelle Malkin

GOP Presidential candidate John McCain sounded more like a Democratic presidential candidate (a recurring trend) when he joined the Left’s oil industry bashers a few weeks ago.

Asked by a North Carolina voter whether he supported a Jimmy Carter-era windfall profits tax, McCain responded: “Um, I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere—and I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax—that’s not what bothers me—but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people or industries or corporations that are distorting the market.”

Here’s an idea for all the hand-wringing GOP strategists in Washington wondering what it will, take to win back disgusted economic and social conservatives:

How about a Republican presidential candidate who will talk about the tax- abortion industry the way McCain talks about the oil industry?

In April, the annual report for Planned Parenthood Federation of America revealed that the abortion giant had a total income of $1.02 billion—with reported profits of nearly $115 million.

Taxpayers kick in more than $366 million worth of government grants and contracts at both the state and federal levels.

That’s a third of Planned Parenthood’s budget.

And what market-distorting results do we get for those government incentives?

In 2006 alone: 289,750 abortions.

Oil execs, tobacco execs, banking execs, pharmaceutical company execs and baseball players have all been hauled up before Congress for highly publicized whippings by crusading law-makers.

But the executives of Planned Parenthood have escaped government scrutiny and public accountability for their predatory behavior, dangerous medical practices, deception and deadly windfall.

In Washington, DC the family of 13 year old Shantese Butler filed a $50 million suit against Planned Parenthood after a botched abortion left the girl permanently injured and infertile.

Students for Life of America reports that Shantese was left with “severe abdominal bleeding, severe vaginal injury, severe injury to the cervix, significant uterine perforation and a small bowel tear.”

In addition, parts of the unborn child were found inside Shantese’s abdomen.

In Nebraska, Planned Parenthood refused to disclose the terms of a settlement with another victim whose botched abortion resulted in a perforated uterus, massive blood loss, an emergency hysterectomy, permanent infertility, seizures and lifelong pain and suffering.

According to their suit obtained by Life News, the woman instructed the abortionist and his assistants to stop, but was told, “We can’t stop.”

The Planned Parenthood employees held her down to complete the procedure.

Where’s the subpoena-wielding Henry Waxman?

Can Arlen Specter spare a moment from investigating the New England Patriots to probe Planned Parenthood’s efforts to advise underage teens on how to circumvent parental notification laws to secretly obtain RU-486, the abortion drug cocktail?

Where is the concern for the women and children who were mistreated by Planned Parenthood clinics in Kansas, where Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline has filed a 107-count criminal complaint against the abortion racket, with charges ranging from falsifying documents to performing illegal late-term abortions?

And where are Nancy Pelosi and the For the Children brigade to investigate the shocking evidence of Planned Parenthood’s nefariousness exposed by undercover student journalist Lila Rose?

Last year, Rose caught a Planned Parenthood official encouraging a female minor to evade statutory rape laws in order to obtain an abortion in California.

In February, Rose released undercover tapes of her discussion with an Idaho Planned Parenthood official eager to accept money from a racist donor who wanted his funds earmarked for aborting black babies.

In April, she released video of clinic officials in New Mexico and Oklahoma willing to take money from a blatantly racist donor.

One Planned Parenthood staffer admits that “for whatever reason, we’ll accept the money.”

For whatever reason, Washington has turned a blind, bipartisan eye to this bloody, government-funded business—and pro-life, limited-government conservatives in the Beltway have gone along with subsidizing it.

“Obscene profits,” indeed.
