Southern Scandal

Recently a woman from Georgia was convicted of a misdemeanor and sentenced to one year in prison for coercing a 16 year old girl to get an abortion, signing parental notifications papers alleging to be the girl’s parent, interfering with parental custody and paying for the abortion.  The girl is her son’s boyfriend and apparently the woman did not want anything to interfere with her son’s future college plans.  The Northside Women’s Clinic reportedly said they would perform the abortion even in the absence of the girl’s parents.  They also took no measures to verify the identity of the woman claiming to be the girl’s parent.  The girl protested against having an abortion, but was threatened with the possibility of never seeing her boyfriend again.  The girl’s true parents were not informed of the abortion until it had already taken place.

The girl’s parents are confused and infuriated that the woman was only convicted with a misdemeanor.  They are working to get the law changed so future offenders receive harsher punishments.  The parents’ attorney holds the clinic responsible as well because they performed an abortion on a young girl who clearly did not want to abort her child.

Georgette Forney, co-founder of Silent No More Awareness Campaign, stated “Abortion clinics are in business to make money and the more abortions they perform, the richer everyone involved becomes; everyone, that is, except the woman who’s just had her life shattered and the baby who’s just had their life ended.”

This statement must hit home for the young girl’s parents.  And according to Janet Morana, also a co-founder of SNMAC, this is not an unusual case! One study reports that 64% of post-abortive women say they were pressured to have an abortion.1 Unfortunately, this Georgia case is only one of many appalling instances of the deception, fraudulence and corruption prevalent in the abortion industry.

Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said it all in her statement.  “Abortion is founded upon, maintained by, and promoted with lies.  There are so many lies surrounding the case of this young girl, it’s hard to know where to begin.  Obviously, there’s the falsehood of the boyfriend’s mother pretending to be the pregnant girl’s mother, the fraud of the boyfriend’s mother illegally signing a parental notification form, and the deception of the girl’s unknowing parents, who never knew their grandchild existed until it is too late.  Most of all, there’s the like that the child who was killed by abortion was not really a child.”

Truth always trumps deceit.

A recent editorial written by a South Dakotan refers to this issue of forced abortions.  Click here to read.

New Zealand Controversy

Almost 98.9% of the 18,000 abortions performed in New Zealand are on the basis of mental health concerns!   The New Zealand Crimes Act does permit grounds for a female to have an abortion if the pregnancy would “pose a serious danger to her life or physical or mental health” but a recent ruling by a High Court Judge, Justice Miller, said that the Abortion Supervisory Committee had “misinterpreted its powers” of physician removal and that abortion consultants were applying the clause “more liberally than parliament intended.”  Applied too liberally?  Indeed.

Candidates FYI

Here is a brief look at the 2008 Presidential candidates and their views on abortion.

John McCain–

  • Consistent pro-life voting record
  • Supports his party platform which promotes a constitutional personhood amendment
  • Believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned and the decision given to individual states
  • Endorsed by pro-life organizations such as National Right to Life
  • “I am strongly pro-life and fully support the reversal of Roe v. Wade.”

Barack Obama–

  • Spoke out against a bill in the IL legislature that would protect a child who lives through an abortion and is born alive.  (In essence, he thinks that surviving an abortion is a crime punishable by death!)
  • Consistent pro-abortion voting record; NARAL gave him a 100% ratingin in 2005, 2006 and 2007
  • Declared that the first thing he would do as President is to sign the Freedom of Choice Act into law; this would overturn every single pro-life state measure enacted (Apparently, Obama is not a big fan of the 10th amendment!)
  • Promised to only nominate judges who pledge to keep abortion legal
  • Endorsed by pro-abortion organizations such as NARAL and Planned Parenthood
  • “I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old…if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.”

Quote of the Day

“You want the right to abortion?  Create it the way most rights are created in a democracy.  Persuade your fellow citizens it’s a good idea–and pass a law.”

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (He says the right to an abortion is not found in the Constitution!)
