Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing our babies to get it.

God Bless America

by Bill Kortemeyer

My wife and I are volunteers working on the pledge drive for the new citizens’ abortion initiative number 11, which will be on the ballot this November.  We are involved in this campaign because we are pro-Bible, pro-life and patriotic.  We are concerned for America—for our grandchildren and their grandchildren.  We are concerned because of the way we in America presently value life.

In the November election in 2006 an abortion ban was defeated by a margin of 55 to 45 percent.  Exit polls and surveys since that time show that a vast number of those who voted against that ban would have voted for it if it had exceptions for rape, incest and the health of the mother.  This initiative has those exceptions, which, incidentally, amount to 1.8 percent of the total abortions in South Dakota.  We are going after the 98.2% in this initiative.

We are now approaching 4000 lives lost in Iraq.  That is a tragedy and I don’t mean to minimize it, but we kill 4000 unborn babies per day by abortion.

The Bible says in Exodus 20:13 and Deuteronomy 5:17, “Thou shall not kill (murder).”  It does not say though shall not kill except for Unborn Babies!  It does not say thou shall not kill until the Roe vs. Wade decision of Jan 21, 1973 and then it will be ok to kill unborn babies!  It does not say thou shall not kill until the eighties or nineties or the 21st Century or

the new millennium or any new millennium.  It says thou shall not kill—period.  There is no expiration date.  Nor is there any provision for any modification or mitigation or alteration of the commandment by anyone…not even the Supreme Court of the United States…The Supreme Court of the United States did not change the law of God—they simply broke it.

And we all rally ‘round the flag and sing God bless America and put big signs in our windows and on billboards and on our clothing saying the same.  Since 9-11-01, people all across America are jumping on the band wagon, proclaiming and singing God bless America, and many of them don’t even know who God is.

“God bless America” is a prayer.  How can we ask?  How can we expect God to bless America when we bless him with 4000 abortions per day?

We need 200,000 South Dakotans by September 1 who will pledge to vote YES on 11.  I’m praying for more.

In the Sioux Falls Argus Leader of Feb 27, 2008, Kate Looby, director of Planned Parenthood SD, said she doesn’t expect much from the VoteYesForLife.com campaign.  That fires me up!

We are told that Planned Parenthood is incapable of winning this legally; they are counting on our apathy and us stumbling over ourselves.

That Christian apathy is what beat us in 2006.  So many people said they did nothing then because they thought it would easily pass.  That Christian apathy is the only thing that can defeat us now.

I would like to close with an old saying that my Grandpa taught me years ago.  Perhaps you’ve heard it.  It goes like this…

For want or lack of a nail, a shoe was lost

For want of a shoe, a horse was lost

For want of a horse, a soldier was lost

For want of a soldier, a battle was lost

For want of a battle, a victory was lost

For want of a victory, a country was lost

All for the want of a nail.

I just want to be a nail.  Will you be a nail with me?

You can be a nail by pledging to vote.  You can be a nail by praying for this initiative and for America.  If God decides that it is time for Roe vs. Wade to be reversed, neither the ACLU, nor the pro-abortion movement, nor the congress, nor the Supreme Court of the United States can stop it.  Please pray for that time.  In so doing, you will truly be praying, “God Bless America.”

Thank You
